Этот бокс с десятью компакт-дисками понравится всем любителям джаза: он содержит в общей сложности 17 оригинальных LP легендарного трубача, который был еще и душевным певцом. Для своих поклонников Чет Бейкер считается одним из создателей сдержанного, типично холодного, лирического стиля игры на трубе, вдохновленного Майлзом Дэвисом.
В возрасте десяти лет отец подарил ему слайд-тромбон, который он, однако, обменял на трубу по примеру своего подражателя Гарри Джеймса. За очень короткое время Бейкер научился играть простые свинговые мелодии, а также проявил импровизационный талант. Он стал популярен как трубач в квартете Джерри Маллигана, с которым написал хитовый сингл "My Funny Valentine".
Однако параллельно с популярностью росла его наркотическая зависимость, и он был вынужден отбыть двухлетний тюремный срок. Однако после долгого затишья он заиграл лучше, чем когда-либо, и сумел записать свои лучшие пластинки в 1978 году в Европе под разными лейблами; еще одним ярким событием стало успешное турне по Японии.
Тем не менее, жизнь этого гениального музыканта закончилась трагически: В мае 1988 г. он выпал из окна гостиницы в Амстердаме; до сих пор неясно, был ли это несчастный случай под воздействием наркотиков или самоубийство.
