Tormé is an uptempo gem that Mel Tormé swings to perfection. Nicknamed "The Velvet Fog," Tormé was a noted singer, composer, arranger, drummer and actor. This self-titled 1958 studio album was his first record for Verve.
Reviewer John Bush, writing for AllMusic, gives the album 4 Stars, saying Tormé skillfully blends both carefree and reflective numbers. "For every bouncy single like 'That Old Feeling' or 'I'm Gonna Laugh You Out of My Life,'" there's drama in "'Gloomy Sunday,' 'The House Is Haunted (By the Echo of Your Last Goodbye),' and his dramatic eight-minute reading of 'Blues in the Night.'"
Seeking to offer definitive audiophile grade versions of some of the most historic and best jazz records ever recorded, Verve's Acoustic Sounds vinyl reissue series utilizes the skills of top mastering engineers and the unsurpassed production craft of Quality Record Pressings. All titles are mastered from the original analog tapes, pressed on 180-gram vinyl and packaged by Stoughton Printing Co. in high-quality gatefold sleeves with tip-on jackets.
